Putting out a 6 song EP in 3 weeks. If you’re around Duluth….you’re correct.
I just put up an entire album of covers I recorded in my spare time. The whole thing is a free download. It would mean a ton if you gave it a listen. There are still many more songs I would love to record and possibly will in the near future.
The Dear Hunter - The Procession
There is something about a song that can start out like Procession does that just makes me want to put my foot down on the gas pedal and get a speeding ticket. The chaotic energy that kicks this track off before settling down in to a ballad like verse is like none-other. The dynamics and stylistic changes in this track are killer as well, with the repeated “one life for another” at the end of the track is a phenomenal build-up. You can’t go wrong with Casey Crescenzo’s vocals either, with a gentle rasp and a curdling shout in his higher range make his voice easily recognizable and oh so sweet.
Jesu - Medicine
There is something so cathartic about Jesu’s Conqueror release, this song is no exception to that. So much heavy layered guitars and the crash of cymbals create this HUGE sounding cityscape in which the songs are crafted. But then there is the humble voice that gently flows over this thick and tense instrumentation that lies beneath. The entire song is hypnotic in a way - repeated phrases and lyrics ad nauseum. There is also this great tension that builds throughout, where you hope the vocals will just soar and explode from their gentle resting area, but it never happens - there is a restraint that tricks your ear and keeps you on edge the entire duration of the song.
the medicine is all we need
to keeps us away and hidden
we can only see the sunset
we never see the sunrise
in our funny little homes
we’re really quite alone
we’re just a sitting target
for your superiority
Please take a minute to check out a new band I’m playing with. We’re called Dead Guys. We just put up two demo songs that we recorded in jake’s living room with a single mic.
That is all. Thanks.
